Situated next to Brunei Museum is the Malay Technology Museum. The building was donated by the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies, concurrent to Brunei Darussalam’s independence in 1984. It was officially opened on February 29, 1988, showcasing different historical artifacts in boat-making, fishing, metal and gold works.
There are two galleries in the first level of the museum, showing the traditional Malay houses and traditional technology in water villages. Another gallery is located in the second level exhibiting the Malay traditional technology in the inland villages, including roof-making, cloth-weaving and handicrafts.
