President Benigno S. Aquino III together with the members of his cabinet and other Filipino-Americans gathered at the Benjamin Franklin Room at the Department of State for a lunch hosted by Secretary of State Hilary Clinton.
In their statements before the toast, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton said that the Philippines and the United States are both riding a new chapter in the story of its alliance, that the trade and economic linkages between the two countries continue to deepen through initiatives like the partnership for growth. She also announced that she together with Secretary del Rosario has signed a new agreement that will spur joints efforts on Science and Technology, adding that when scientist share their ideas and their resources not only do the two countries benefit but also the world. She also announced that the United States is increasing the number of the United States peace core volunteers in the Philippines and will support the construction of the outfitting and training of a new national coast watch center in the country.
In his reply, the President thanked Secretary Clinton for her very warm and gracious hospitality; he also sent his congratulations for a very active and progressive diplomacy that has characterized the state department under her leadership. The President also said that he sees a very rewarding future as both countries work on the different element that binds it such as defences, security in the economy and among people. He further said that there is much reason to further deepen the bonds of friendship and he hopes that both nations continue to stand together as partners committed to security and prosperity investing in building a stable region for future generations.
