The Local Governance Summit 2024 concluded at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on August 23, 2024.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) led the two-day event in partnership with the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) that centered on the theme, ‘LGUs sa Bagong Pilipinas: Smart. Resilient. Driven.’
Participants engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening the partnership between national and local governments.
The Summit highlighted several anticipated short-term outcomes, including increased awareness on the vital role that local government units (LGUs) play in national development and enhanced collaboration between LGUs, national government agencies and other stakeholders.
It provided a platform for developing a shared vision for the future of local governance and generating concrete recommendations for policy and program development.
Looking ahead, the Summit aims to achieve medium-term outcomes such as increasing LGUs’ capacity to deliver quality public services, improving fiscal performance and resource management, and enhancing local governance systems and practices while bolstering decentralized cooperation among LGUs.
