The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) successfully launched the first day of the Local Governance Summit 2024 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on August 22, 2024.
The Summit, held under the theme ‘LGUs sa Bagong Pilipinas: Smart. Resilient. Driven.,’ is designed to empower local government units (LGUs) with the tools and knowledge necessary to meet the evolving demands of governance.
With the support of international organizations and national agencies, the event highlighted the critical role of LGUs in driving sustainable development and improving public service delivery.
The morning session featured a comprehensive agenda, including discussions on Philippine and global trends in innovation and the launch of the Philippine Smart Local Governments Network (PSLG). Afternoon sessions focused on national policies and a review of three (3) decades of LGU innovations and best practices, providing a platform for exchange and collaboration among local officials.
By enhancing the capacity of local governments, the Summit envisions a future where LGUs become not only effective service providers but also catalysts for sustainable growth and development.
