President Rodrigo Roa Duterte commended the movers and volunteers behind the Hardin ng Lunas during its launching and the symbolic distribution of its produce to the beneficiaries at the New Presidential Security Group (PSG) Fire Range in Malacañang Park, Manila.

“Symbolic lang ito and hindi naman mapakain lahat, but kung may spirit lang na ganito ang isang Pilipino, wala talaga tayong problema,” the President said.

During his speech, President Duterte recalled how his mother spearheaded and initiated a similar project in Davao City. He also reiterated his vow to suppress corruption and the proliferation of illegal drugs in the country.

Hardin ng Lunas, a project by the PSG in cooperation with Dr. Isa Cojuangco-Suntay of the Tarlac Heritage Foundation, aims to address issues on food security by providing produce to the underprivileged families residing within the Malacañang Park, as well as residents of the Hospicio de San Jose and the PSG dependents. It is stipulated in the Executive Order No. 5 signed by the President on October 11, 2016 that aspires to create a predominantly middle class society where no one is poor, as indicated in the AmBisyon Natin 2040 Development Goals.

According to PSG Group Commander General Rolando Joselito Bautista, PSG members will learn how to cultivate green leafy vegetables, gain knowledge on the nutritional value of vegetables and root crops, develop necessary gardening skills, and develop a healthy lifestyle through the Hardin ng Lunas.

“Serving as protectors of no less than President Duterte since June 30, 2016, one cannot help but be called into action to assist in our own little way to mitigate hunger in the depressed areas surrounding our command. Hence, PSG Hardin ng Lunas wherein once idle land inside the camp that is not prone to flooding was identified, cultivated, and nurtured by willing hands to bear fruit,” the PSG Group Commander added.

General Bautista also reaffirmed that the PSG strives to possess hard work, perseverance, and commitment not only to protect and serve, but also to give and share.
