The Khao San Road in the Banglamphu district is an area surrounded by numerous restaurant, bars, hotels and souvenir sellers that come alive especially during the night for local travelers and foreign tourists.
The word ‘khao san’ meaning milled rice is an attribution to the historical role of the area in the rice trade and then it started to have small hotels or guesthouses to serve mainly those who came from the provinces to do business in Bangkok.
It is a backpackers’ mecca where the street is lined up with a wide variety of stores like food stalls, convenience stores, internet cafes, travel agencies and beer gardens.
