“Your influence as journalists is profound. With every report, story and headline, you help shape public perception — strengthening our citizens’ capabilities to make informed choices and voice their dreams and aspirations,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. remarked during the 50th Top-Level Management Conference (TLMC) of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) at the Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay City.
The President commended the KBP’s commitment to integrity, fairness and the enduring pursuit of truth, emphasizing the need for an informed citizenry to sustain democratic values.
“This is where responsible journalism comes in. This responsibility goes beyond simply informing — it enlightens, it empowers. By championing integrity and accuracy, the broadcast media helps build public trust which in turn strengthens our democracy,” he said.
With information now accessible at unprecedented speed, the Chief Executive cautioned against the perils of disinformation, particularly as the 2025 midterm elections approach.
He highlighted the responsibility of the media to safeguard the truth, which he believes is critical to combating misinformation spread by troll farms and other malicious entities.
The President also praised KBP’s partnership with the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), a collaboration aimed at ensuring transparent and honest elections.
He called on the media to not only inform but also inspire citizens to engage actively in civic duties, fostering a vigilant society ready to defend democratic values.
“We are one in defending the truth and addressing the demands of modern media. Sama-sama nating itaguyod ang isang malaya, mapagpalaya at mapagkakatiwalaan na pamamahayag sa ilalim ng Bagong Pilipinas,” President Marcos Jr. concluded in his speech.
