President Rodrigo Roa Duterte lauded the quick response of government agencies during the onslaught and aftermath of Typhoon ‘Rosita’ in the country as he presided over a situation briefing assessing the damages caused by the typhoon.
Speaking before his Cabinet members and the local government unit (LGU) of Cauayan City, Isabela, President Duterte expressed his contentment over the preparations and management plans of every emergency response team of the government, saying that the mitigation measures implemented by all involved are impressive.
“I am satisfied with the response of the government. Everybody is here. And I think that everyone is doing his duty. I’d like to thank you for that. Verily, the rule in crisis management or whatever calamity… the number one rule is we have to return to normalcy as soon as possible,” he expressed.
Moreover, the President ordered the continuous rescue and rehabilitation efforts of all agencies involved to those badly affected by the calamity.
Typhoon ‘Rosita’, with international name ‘Yutu’, entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on October 30 (Tuesday) and ravaged much of Northern and Central Luzon. Its strength reached maximum sustained winds of up to 110 kilometers per hour (kph), bringing heavy rains and winds in some parts of the regions that resulted to flash floods and landslides.
As of this posting, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed that Typhoon Rosita displaced 30,734 families and left 15 confirmed deaths. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), together with the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) and local government units (LGUs) of the affected regions, allotted a total of PhP 15,928,885.90 worth of assistance to the victims.
