“We are one of the most vulnerable but we are also among the most agile, the most resilient, the most adaptive in terms of solutions that we were able to provide to climate change,” underscores Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, highlighting the Philippines’ readiness to promote a whole-of-nation and whole-of-government approach in addressing the impacts of climate change worldwide.
In an interview, the Secretary emphasizes the importance of collective efforts in coming up with effective solutions to confront climate change, which affects the overall progress of every nation.
“The solution doesn’t lie with the government alone. It really lies in a kind of multi-stakeholder and multi-level partnership. The local government, as well as across different sectors, including the private sector, the CSO sector, academe, and other like-minded international organizations and local organizations,” she conveys.
“What we’d like to show is there must be an intersection between social, economic and environmental, to be able to find solutions on climate change,” the Secretary adds.
During the opening of the Philippine Pavilion at the Dubai Expo City, Secretary Loyzaga reaffirms the country’s commitment to join in the campaign to mitigate the effects of climate change, further stating that this is a reflection of the Philippines’ unyielding support towards promoting awareness on the global issue.
Secretary Loyzaga is in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) after being designated by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to lead the Philippine delegation to the United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP28).
