President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. issued directives to accelerate the repair of the Tangos-Tanza Navigational Gate and the construction of retaining walls during his site inspection in Barangay Tanza 1, Navotas City.

The Tangos-Tanza Navigational Gate is a vital barrier against tidal overflow. However, it has been undergoing repairs following an incident last year in which a barge forced its way through the structure.

Although the gate was temporarily operational starting in November last year, it required additional repairs in May this year.

The progress was further delayed due to persistent rains caused by a series of typhoons and the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat). These weather conditions exacerbated flooding in low-lying barangays in Navotas City and Malabon, with floodwaters reaching waist-deep during high tide.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan assures the President that the repairs will be completed by August 8 of this year.
