President Benigno S. Aquino III led the inspection of Puerto Princesa Airport Development Project (PPADP) at the open ramp between the Western Command Air Defense Alert Center (ADAC) and the construction site where he was briefed by Transportation and Communications Undersecretary Jualinito Bucayan.

PPADP, which is being financed by the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM), aims to improve the facilities of the current Puerto Princesa Airport, expand the airport’s capacity, and enhance the quality of its services and the safety of air transport to comply with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Moreover, the project plans to revive trade linkages between the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

Once the project is completed, tourism in the province of Palawan is expected to boost and generate an income of Php342 million per year. Likewise, it will create more jobs for the city’s residents.

The construction of the project started on August 1, 2014 and is expected to be completed on January 17, 2017.
