Following his visit to Compostela Valley, President Benigno S. Aquino III flew to Zamboanga City to personally inspect the bunk houses installed at the Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex for the internally displaced persons.
In his speech, the President mentioned that as the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R) was being carried on, these bunk houses will serve as temporary shelters to 2,733 affected families. These houses have a total number of 16 rooms which can accommodate 36 families, 59 units of portalets and 69 units of bathing facilities.
“Linawin ko lang po: Temporary lang ito sa ngayon, dahil sinisiguro nating ligtas ang lugar na pagtatayuan ninyo ng permanenteng bahay. Sinisiguro nating may sapat itong mga pasilidad, at payapa ang inyong bagong komunidad,” President Aquino said.
Z3 is created under the “Build Back Better” principle, to cater to the environmental needs of the affected families, address social impact and ensure the public safety and security of all surrounding communities. It has a total budget amounting to P3.5 billion. Among its lead agencies are the Department of Public Works and Highways, the city government of Zamboanga and the University of the Philippines Planning and Development Foundation.
