“This project is a testament to the Filipino mark of excellence which has contributed significantly to our efforts in rebuilding our nation and providing a better environment for the next generations,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored as he led the inauguration of the first impounding dam in Ilocos Norte — the Sulvec Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SSRIP) – geared towards strengthening the provision of irrigation system in the Province.

In his speech, the President emphasized the SSRIP as a crucial testament in government’s efforts to improve the state of agriculture across the country. He notes the countless benefits that Filipino farmers will get from the momentous project once it commences operations, such as sufficient water supply, thriving crop productivity and sustained livelihood.

“The implementation of this endeavor may have been long and laborious, but knowing how many communities will benefit and how much impact it will make on their daily work, it is impossible not to be glad and excited… Kaya po ang mga magsasaka natin ay makaaasa na magiging mas maganda at marami pa ang kanilang aanihin,” he said.

The SSRIP is a PhP940.46 million project that boasts a capacity of 1.063 million cubic meters of water enough to irrigate more than 700 hectares of agricultural land in 10 barangays within the Municipality of Pasuquin. Spearheaded by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), around 1,045 farmers are expected to benefit from the project once operational.

President Marcos Jr. recognized the efforts of all people involved in making the SSRIP possible. These include engineers, architects and construction workers, as well as the NIA for its drive and perseverance amidst the challenges encountered throughout the construction.

“And with the leadership and support that this administration freely offers, I enjoin you to spare no effort in the execution of our other plans and projects. Let us exhibit how the government works under the banner of a Bagong Pilipinas,” the Chief Executive concluded in his message.
