Delivering on his promise to ease the congested traffic in Metro Manila, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the inauguration of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Harbor Link Segment 10 Project in Caloocan City.

In his opening remarks, President Duterte lauded the officials and personnel involved in building the NLEX’ newest section.

“All of the projects that we undertake and will do for the rest of my term be — give our gratitude to the builders, to the contractors, the partners of government and to — we place it in the name of the people of the Republic of the Philippines,” he emphasized.

“I acknowledge the efforts of the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Department of Transportation, and the NLEX Corporation for their timely implementation and completion of the project,” the President added.

The NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10, which costs around PhP 9 billion, is a 5.65 kilometer elevated expressway that passes over Malabon, Valenzuela, and Caloocan.

The newly opened section is part of the four (4) segments under the NLEX Harbor Link Project, which totals to a 21.65 kilometer extension of the NLEX from Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City to the C-3 (Circumferential Road 3) in Caloocan City, and to Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

President Duterte also conveyed his optimism on the progress of the NLEX project, expecting it to be completed and open to the public within the next two (2) years.

Built over the existing Philippine National Railways (PNR) tracks, the new NLEX section seeks to relieve traffic woes from road motorists and decongest traffic in Metro Manila. It will also dramatically improve the travel time of cargo vehicles and solve truck ban problems.

“It will reduce traffic time — travel time from Valenzuela to C-3 from the usual 1 hour to just 5 minutes. That’s heaven. And it will benefit around 20,000 motorists per day and will also serve as an alternate route for motorists and resolve truck ban problems,” President Duterte stated, citing further that road project will pave the way for socio-economic growth for the Philippines’ industries and communities.

“Let us remain steadfast as we work together in forging a stronger and more progressive future for all Filipinos,” the President ended.

On the same night prior to the inauguration, the Chief Executive also graced the groundbreaking ceremony for the NLEX-SLEX (South Luzon Expressway) Connector Road project.
