2 May 2016
President Benigno S. Aquino III led the unveiling of the marker and inaugural drive-through of the newly built Pamplona Bridge in Barangay Masi, Pamplona, Cagayan.
The 489.80-meter bridge was built to replace a 50-year old bridge connecting Pamplona, Cagayan to Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte and Calanasan, Apayao.
The new bridge will ensure continuous transport of goods and access to vital services and markets, as well as provide a safer travel experience for 1,914 motorists per day in 18 different municipalities within 3 different regions in Northern Luzon.
Engineer Neri Bueno, director of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Region II, said the bridge is made of nine-span structural steel girders with reinforced concrete slab supported by eight piers and two abutments.
The construction of the 2-lane bridge started in February 2013 and was completed in early 2016, costing a total of PhP 639.83 million.
