Demonstrating the Administration’s firm determination to provide efficient and accessible transportation options for the Filipino people, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. formally inaugurated the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension Project Phase 1 at Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City.

In his keynote message, the President lauded the foresight of his father, the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., for bringing the concept of the LRT into fruition and rolling into history as the first rapid train system in Southeast Asia. He also recognized his predecessors for their roles in helping make the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project Phase 1 a reality.

“The Phase 1 extends the LRT Line 1, bringing us the first five (5) new stations in Parañaque City. These stations – Redemptorist-ASEANA, MIA Road, Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange, Ninoy Aquino Avenue and Dr. Santos – will serve as vital access points for many Filipinos…With the Phase 1 completion, the LRT-1 will have the capacity to serve an additional eighty (80) thousand passengers each day, significantly enhancing our current ridership. Commuters will now see a great reduction in their travel time, allowing them to spend more time with their loved ones,” the President said.

He reiterated the Administration’s commitment to intensify work on rail initiatives by resolving issues on road right of way and removing the 40 percent cap on foreign investment in railways in the Public Service Act to attract foreign investments in the transport sector.

Furthermore, the Chief Executive vowed to pursue more transportation projects such as the Unified Grand Central Station in Quezon City, Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) and North-South Commuter Railway to achieve a reliable and efficient transportation system accessible to all Filipinos, ultimately fostering a truly inclusive and connected nation.

“Together, let us build a more advanced, progressive and prosperous Bagong Pilipinas – one where every Filipino can look towards a future of seamless connectivity, improved mobility and the freedom to spend time on what truly matters,” President Marcos Jr. ended in his speech.

After the program, the President boarded a train at Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City and alighted at the Redemptorist-ASEANA Station in Pasay City.
