“The credit and the honor should belong to the one who funded the project and, of course, the one who toiled night and day to make this bridge a reality,” said President Rodrigo Roa Duterte when he inaugurated the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge Project in Makati City, one of the 25 infrastructure projects under the Build, Build, Build Program that targets to ease traffic woes in Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).

The four-lane, two-way bridge links Estrella Street in Makati City and Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City within 10 minutes and is expected to benefit 50,000 motorists and commuters daily.

The Chief Executive commended the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for spearheading the project, alongside the People’s Republic of China for its infusion of PhP1.46 billion funding assistance.

“This is the work of the people involved directly, the Republic of, the People’s Republic of China who provided the money, and the workhorse of the DPWH and its dedicated workers at ‘yung mga taong naghirap dito. Sa kanila ito ang proyekto,” he said.

The 506-meter concrete girder bridge, which is one (1) of the two (2) bridge projects funded by the Chinese government, is designed and constructed to become resilient against natural disasters.

After delivering his speech, President Duterte toured a portion of the bridge with DPWH Secretary Mark Villar and His Excellency Huang Xillian, Ambassador of China to the Philippines.
