President Rodrigo Roa Duterte attended the inauguration of his daughter, Sara Zimmerman Duterte, as the 15th Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines in a ceremony at the San Pedro Square in Davao City.
The Chief Executive witnessed the administration of the oath of office to Vice President Duterte by Supreme Court Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando.
“Today is Father’s Day. This is a time for families to celebrate — but you are here with me. Daghang salamat sa inyong pagtambong ug pagkuyog kanako niining adlawa. (Thank you so much for attending and joining me today.) Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers who make sure that another person is given the best of everything,” Vice President Sara Duterte said in her inaugural address.
The Vice President won by a majority vote in the May 2022 National and Local Elections. “The voice of 32.2 million Filipinos was loud and clear — with the message to serve our motherland. And this message has been reiterated in my oath: to consecrate myself to the service of the nation,” she added.
Vice President Duterte shall also serve as the next Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary after accepting the invitation of President-elect Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr.
Apart from President Duterte, President-elect Marcos, Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the First Family, several Senators and Congressmen, members of the Diplomatic Corps, local government officials, other guests and the public comprised the estimated crowd of 20,000 in attendance at Vice President Sara Duterte’s inaugural ceremony.
