President Benigno S. Aquino III inaugurated the newly constructed Passenger Terminal Building and pier extension of Manguino-o Port in Calbayog City, Western Samar.
“Malinaw ang pakinabang na hatid ng isang mas malawak at mas modernong Maguino-o Port: mas maraming barko and dadaong sa inyong bayan para magdala ng iba’t-ibang produkto sa inyong lalawigan,” the President said.
He added that the project will not only encourage trade for both incoming and outgoing products but will also help boost domestic tourism in the locality, citing several potential tourist destinations in the region such as the Bangon Falls, Guinogo-an Cave and Malajog Beach, that will result to job generation.
The President also mentioned other infrastrature projects the government is pushing for such as the rehabilitation of Catbalogan Diversion Road and other national secondary roads in the province of Samar and Eastern Samar, and the Samar Pacific Coastal Road Project that will connect the Northern and Easern Samar.
“Ang sistema natin: palakasin angmga programang may direktang pakinabang ang mamamayan, at siguraduhing ang mga gagawa nito ay mga taong talagang maasahan,” he said.
The Php 38.59 million worth of projects for the Manguino-o Port was implemented by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) to serve as an alternate port for the City Port of Calbayog which had to be constantly dredged due to siltation problem.
President Aquino also announced that an additional Php 10 million was allocated this year to modernize the port through the installation of port lights, fences, and water supply system.
