“Ang bawat linya sa inyong balat at bawat puting buhok ay bahagi ng hibla na naghahabi sa ating kasaysayan,” remarked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. after leading the inaugural distribution of cash gifts to senior citizens under the Expanded Centenarians Act of 2024 (Republic Act No. 11982) at the Heroes Hall in Malacañan Palace.
President Marcos Jr. expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate with senior citizens, acknowledging that many of them had witnessed significant moments in Philippine history.
The Chief Executive called on Filipinos to show appreciation and care for the elderly, reminding everyone that while the world continues to change rapidly due to technology, the contributions of older generations should not be forgotten.
Addressing the broader needs of senior citizens, President Marcos Jr. also recognized the challenges many of them face, including financial dependence on their children, high healthcare costs and even neglect or abuse.
He outlined the benefits available to senior citizens under the Law, such as discounts on water, electricity, transportation, medicine, healthcare and entertainment.
The President urged the younger generation to uphold the wisdom passed down by their elders in building a better future.
