President Benigno S. Aquino III led the groundbreaking ceremony of the P215 million Roxas Airport Development Project in the province of Capiz.

In his speech, the President mentioned the upgrades of the Roxas City Airport which include the asphalt overlaying and extension of runway, installation of night-landing facilities, acquisition of fire truck and reconstruction of the Passenger Terminal Building. Once completed, the airport will be able to transport 797 passengers daily from its present count of 419 people.

He also cited actions done by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) following the lifting of Significant Safety Concerns warning by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Developing airports in key cities like Roxas supports the government’s aim to reach 10 million tourists by 2016. Dubbed as the “Seafood Capital of the Philippines,” this city is one destination projected to have an increasing number of local and international visitors.

Joining the President were Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas III and CAAP Director-General William Hotchkiss III.
