“We take a leap towards a future driven by innovation and sustained by our collective hope for a cleaner and greener Philippines… This landmark project will put our country on the map as a leader in renewable energy,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. conveyed when he led the groundbreaking ceremony of the largest integrated solar and battery storage facility in the world — the Meralco Terra (MTerra) Solar.
In his remarks, the President underscored the solar project as crucial and timely as the Administration looks for more reliable ways to promote clean energy solutions across the archipelago. He expressed his utmost gratitude to the government partners in the private sector, noting that this demonstrates the unyielding efforts of the country as a key player in the global energy revolution.
“With an investment of over PhP200 billion pesos, this demonstrates the confidence in the stakeholders in our nation’s potential and our commitment to securing a stable, steady and sustainable power supply,” he said.
The MTerra Solar Project is situated in the Provinces of Nueva Ecija and Bulacan spanning around 3,500 hectares, and is expected to become operational by 2026. Its primary goal is to address the nation’s growing demand for electricity while supporting the shift toward sustainable and clean energy solutions.
A 13-kilometer, 500-kilovolt (kV) transmission line will connect this project to the power grid, ensuring that clean energy reaches Filipino homes and businesses with efficiency.
Once operational, MTerra Solar is expected to provide power to over two (2) million households and reduce carbon emissions by more than 4.3 million metric tons per year.
“By leveraging our abundant solar resources, the Terra Solar Project will help stabilize our power supply, reduce energy costs and contribute significantly to our target of 35 percent renewable energy share in the power generation mix by the year 2030,” President Marcos Jr. stressed.
“The impacts and advancements of this project are amongst those that we envisioned when I spoke about energy in my recent State of the Nation Address. We are working towards a steady and reliable power supply that will meet the demands of today and continuously fuel our ambitions of tomorrow. Projects like Terra Solar bring us closer to this vision,” he added.
Likewise, the Chief Executive urged all government agencies and other private sector entities to fully support the landmark project by ensuring its timely completion and facilitating solutions that will save the planet and the future of mankind.
“I hope that beyond the technical and economic milestones brought about by this project, let us remember the broader goal that drives us: it is a Bagong Pilipinas where our needs are met responsibly, equitably and sustainably,” President Marcos Jr. ended in his speech.
