President Rodrigo Roa Duterte graced the grand opening of Rizal Park Hotel at T.M. Kalaw Extension in Ermita, city of Manila.

Rizal Park Hotel stands in the exact same spot where the iconic Manila Army and Navy Club stood back in 1898, then the center of Manila’s social life. Restoration of the building began four years ago, with the original design kept intact to preserve the history and culture of the place.

In his message, President Duterte conveyed that the hotel is “prettier than the original one” and expressed that the revival and restoration of this national heritage site is admirable.

He said that the retention of the Manila Army and Navy Club’s original design in the Rizal Park Hotel is a preservation of the country’s history, as well as a symbol of national identity.

The President added that his government would continue to implement measures that would make the Philippines a more attractive place for tourists.

After the program, President Duterte was given a tour inside the hotel and was led to view the Presidential Suite.
