“This is very important, as jamborees are the ‘mother of all activities’ in our scout life. It reminds us not only of the continued importance of scouting, but also of the enduring legacy of the scouting movement in our country,” remarked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. when he officially declared the opening of the 18th National Scout Jamboree in Passi City, Iloilo.

Addressing a crowd of around 34,000, including scout delegates coming from different parts of the country and some from international scouting communities, the President added, “Scouting plays a vital role in fostering the spirit of camaraderie and leadership among your youth. With its unique blend of education, adventure, fun, scouting continues to inspire our young people to become active and productive members of society.”

In March of this year, through National Office Memorandum No. 24, series of 2023, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) announced the holding of this national event, which begins today and will run until December 17. The occasion happens only every four (4) years.

During the event, an investiture ceremony took place installing President Marcos Jr. as the Chief Scout of the BSP. He called on all the scouts present at this year’s gathering to learn more about becoming positive agents of change.

“Each of you here is called upon to help shape our future and create a better and more sustainable world… Stand your ground, embody the scout law, and heed the call of duty to God and country. These qualities will make you a good scout. A good scout makes a good citizen and a good contributor to our goal of building a Bagong Pilipinas,” he ended in his message.
