23 June 2015
President Benigno S. Aquino III led the mass oath-taking of 220 newly-elected officials and members of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII).
Among the inducted officials were Messrs. Angel Ngu (FFCCCII President) and Lucio Tan (Chairman Emeritus), together with the honorary presidents, board members, committee chairpersons, regional executive directors and council members.
On the same occasion, President Aquino was handed-over the scale model of the two-classroom school building, a flagship project of the federation called “Operation: Barrio Schools”. It was created to raise funds to finance the construction of a standard 7×14 meter two-classroom building to public schools nationwide.
According to reports released by the FFCCCII, the “Operation: Barrio Schools” is the longest-running and biggest private-sector led development program focusing on educational infrastructure. As of June 2015, the federation had already turned over around 4,933 school buildings (equivalent to 9,866 classrooms) to public schools, benefitting nearly a million students per day.
Joining the President in the event was Justice Secretary Leila De Lima.
