President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed his gratitude to Her Excellency Annika Thunborg, outgoing Ambassador of Sweden to the Philippines, for bringing the two countries closer together during a farewell call at the Study Room in Malacañan Palace.

The Swedish envoy conveyed her gratitude for President Marcos Jr.’s strong leadership, particularly highlighting the Philippines’ firm condemnation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The outgoing Ambassador concluded her three-year diplomatic posting in the Philippines, during which she worked closely with the Marcos Administration in prioritizing socioeconomic development, especially in key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, digitalization, connectivity and the rule of law.

As like-minded countries, both Sweden and the Philippines affirmed the crucial importance of upholding the standards of international law and the rules-based international order, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
