President Rodrigo Roa Duterte attended the establishment of the TienDA Para Sa Mga Bayani at the Camp Manuel T. Yan Sr. in Mawab, Compostela Valley Province.
The TienDA Para Sa Mga Bayani, a farmers and fisherfolks outlet, is a project exclusive to the military that was launched at the Bonifacio Naval Station in Taguig City on October 28, 2017. It is a Department of Agriculture (DA) project in partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) that aims to help and provide assistance to the farmers, fisherfolks, and families of the soldiers.
The established TienDA Para Sa Mga Bayani in Camp Manuel was identified by the AFP as one of the twenty (20) outlets where the other DA projects would be put up such as the Karne, Isda, Supply, Suporta sa Masa at Ekonomiya (KISS ME) livelihood package, P.A.G.K.A.I.N. Para Sa Mga Bayani Livelihood Program Egg Layer Machines donated by the Aboitiz Group, and the Circle of Life project by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
In his presentation, DA Secretary Manny Piñol expressed his gratitude for this project partnership with the Department of National Defense (DND) and the AFP, saying, “The Department of Agriculture is pleased to be in a partnership with our military forces Mr. President, because we believe that by working together, DND and DA can achieve peace, greater productivity and reduce poverty in the countryside.”
In the event, President Duterte witnessed the ceremonial turnover of the DA-DND TienDA fruit basket to Cpl. Camsa Elarde, a wounded-in-action (WIA) soldier.
The President was joined in the event by DND Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, AFP Chief of Staff General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, DA Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, Aboitiz Agri-Ventures COO Sabin Aboitiz, as well as the EastMinCom and DA employees.
