Libingan ng mga Bayani, Taguig City
February 22, 2017
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar joined Department of National Defense (DND) Undersecretary Cardozo Luna in a wreath laying ceremony and military honors at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City for the 31st commemoration of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
The 31st anniversary of the country’s historic event bears the theme, “A Day of Reflection: Celebrating People Power for Nation Building.”
“Thirty-one years ago, our people joined forces to begin a new era marked by true freedom and democracy. The repetitive sound of the tie or yellow ribbon, people rallying, the presence of soldiers who stood guard, people hearing the voice of Cardinal Sin through Radyo Veritas, nuns giving out rosaries and flowers as symbols of unity and peace among many others – these are but bits and pieces of EDSA I that we must remember today,” Usec. Luna said in his speech.
According to him, EDSA I is one of the defining moments in the history of the country which brought back democratic institutions and ushered in political, social, and economic reforms in the nation.
“We may differ in opinions but we are united in aspirations to attain peace and development for our country. Let us all unite and focus ourselves in nation building. All of us, may we keep the flame of unity and democracy burning,” he added.
