As the Philippines wrapped up its hosting of the Downhill Skateboarding and Street Luge World Championship, skateboard athletes from around the globe shared their insights on this momentous occasion, set against the backdrop of Taal Volcano in Tagaytay City on February 25, 2024.
Carl Sambrano, President of Skate Pilipinas, expressed optimism about the Philippines’ readiness to host future world championships and highlighted the eagerness of Filipinos to represent their country on the global stage of extreme sports.
This year’s championship saw the participation of 83 athletes from 18 countries, who competed in time trials from February 22 to determine the seeding for the quarterfinals and semifinals, culminating in today’s finals. The competition unfolded on the 1.5-kilometer stretch of the Sampaloc Tagaytay-Talisay Road, which boasts an elevation gain of 298 meters and allowed athletes to showcase their skills in reaching top speeds.
