President Rodrigo Roa Duterte met with the local chief executives of the province of Cebu in a dinner held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Cebu on May 19, 2018.
In his remarks, the President talked about the recent developments in his administration, including the ongoing rehabilitation of Boracay Island in Aklan and the continuation of the peace talks with leftist groups.
President Duterte also spoke of his government’s fight against crime and corruption, adding that he would never tolerate favors or project proposals coursed through his relatives or through the mention of his name. He also reiterated his stance on the ongoing war against illegal drugs, saying that he would take responsibility should the police or the military be apprehended in the performance of their duties.
“We never knew the extent of the contamination of shabu (crystal meth) until I became President… I said do not destroy my country… If you destroy my country, it should not be during my watch,” he said.
