President Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivered his speech before departing from the Davao International Airport to Changi International Airport in Singapore to participate in the 32nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits from April 26-28, 2018.

The Chief Executive is expected to discuss the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairmanship last year, including the ASEAN Consensus on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers, and the ASEAN Declaration on the Role of Civil Service as a catalyst to realize the ASEAN Vision 2025.

In his departure statement, President Duterte said that Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s invitation provides an opportunity for the regional bloc to continue working closely together to further strengthen community building and advance greater peace, security and stability in the region.

“Singapore’s theme of a Resilient and Innovative ASEAN helps push forward the thematic priorities we pursued during the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairmanship,” the President added.

He also mentioned that in the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit, he would be meeting with the business leaders to encourage them to invest in the Philippines. Moreover, he would be joining his ‘kababayans’ in the Filipino community meeting.

In attendance during the President’s departure were Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Philippine National Police (PNP) XI Regional Director Manuel Gaerlan, and Eastern Mindanao Command (EASTMINCOM) Commander Lieutenant General Benjamin Madrigal.
