President Benigno S. Aquino III conducted a demo run of the first Philippine-made elevated train called the Automated Guideway Transit (AGT) System held at the University of the Philippines compound in Diliman, Quezon City.

On board the AGT train, the President was briefed about the project by Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo. They were also joined by Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, UP Diliman Chancellor Alfredo Pascual and MERALCO Industrial Engineering Services Corporation (MIESCOR) Builders Chairman Jesus Francisco.

The AGT train is a flagship project of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in collaboration with UP. It is an elevated train which is capable of transporting a maximum of 60 passengers from station to station. The electrically driven train is emission-free, and aims to ease traffic congestion in urban areas and to lessen the cost of buying trains from other countries.
