“It is now up to us – who lived – who benefitted from their full measure of devotion to duty, to build a kinder and gentler society, wherein those they have left behind can live in peace and prosperity,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. remarked as he urged Filipinos to consistently uphold the legacy and gallantry of 44 members of the Special Action Force (SAF) that redefined the meaning of sacrifice for the welfare of the Filipino people.

The President made these remarks as he led the Day of National Remembrance for the Heroic Sacrifice of SAF 44 in Silang, Cavite where he reiterated the collective responsibility of Filipinos to honor the heroism of these fallen soldiers and to ensure that their heroic deeds will continue to live on.

“Today we remember their heroism and honor the sacrifice they have made. It is a debt we will never be able to fully pay, no matter how we try to amortize it… It is an obligation that we will never extinguish no matter how often we give meaning to their valor,” President Marcos Jr. said.

“In their last hours, in that place of honor, we can draw many important lessons. Lessons such as to put nation before self. To display courage under fire. To resolve to forge ahead. To never give up,” he added.

The Commander-in-Chief expressed his deepest commiseration to the families and comrades of the fallen heroes, reassuring them that their unwavering commitment and dedication to public service always serve as an inspiration for the Administration to build a stronger and more peaceful nation.

“Let our reverence for these men be always accompanied by a deeper reflection, so we too can summon the fight in ourselves to build a better future for our nation,” he conveyed.

With this year’s theme, ‘Valiant Men with Unparalleled Devotion to God, Country, and People: A Blessing to a Victorious Nation,’ this occasion is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 164 declaring the 25th of January every year as a day to honor and remember the sacrifices of the SAF members.
