15 May 2012

President Benigno S. Aquino III received Yutaro Shintaku, President and Representative Director of Terumo Corporation, in a courtesy call at the Music Room of Malacanan Palace.

Mr. Shintaku was accompanied by Maki Takizawa (President, Terumo Philippines Corporation), Corazon Ronidel (Senior Manager, Terumo Philippines Corporation) and Marianito Dabalos (President, Terumo Marketing Philippines).  Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Gregory Domingo was also present in the courtesy call.

Terumo Corporation was founded in September 1921 by a group of medical scientists led by Dr. Shibasaburo Kitasato, with the intention of manufacturing the most reliable clinical thermometer possible in Japan.  It has since expanded to become one of the largest producers of medical devices globally.  As of May 2012, it has a total of 24 factories in various countries (5 factories in Japan and 19 factories outside Japan).

This month, Terumo Corporation announced that it will expand its production facilities in Asia to meet anticipated sales increases in the medium to long term, based on its corporate growth strategy.

In the Philippines, the said corporation will establish a new building in its existing factory located in Binan, Laguna to expand the production scale of syringes and needles for its global market.  Operation of the new production building is projected to begin on the first quarter of 2013.
