President Benigno S. Aquino III received Director General Guy Ryder of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in a courtesy call at Malacañan Palace.

Mr. Ryder is in Manila for a two-day visit (December 16-17) since being elected as the 10th ILO Director General on 1 October 2012.  He will serve for a term of five years.

The ILO said that the talks with President Aquino will focus on its support to the Philippines in achieving inclusive growth through decent work.  The last visit of an ILO Director General to the country was on February 1995.

Director General Ryder was accompanied by Paulo Barcia (ILO Chief of Cabinet), Lawrence Jeff Johnson (ILO Country Representative), Yoshiteru Uramoto (ILO Regional Director) and Alcestis Mangahas (ILO Deputy Regional Director) in the courtesy call.

Joining President Aquino in the Philippine side are Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario, Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz and DFA Assistant Secretary Eduardo Meñez.

In its official website, the ILO states that Guy Ryder sees the organization as absolutely central to the questions of the day: jobs, social protection, the fight against poverty, and equality. He has started a process of internal reform to strengthen the ILO’s technical capacity and improve its policy analysis.
