President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. received His Excellency Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Indian External Affairs Minister (EAM), in a courtesy call at the Study Room in Malacañan Palace.

During his visit, EAM Jaishankar prioritized defense and maritime cooperation while also engaging in discussions encompassing trade, tourism, food security, development, healthcare and financial technology collaboration, highlighting the commitment of both nations to enhancing their strategic partnership and promoting mutual growth and development.

India holds a significant position in the Philippines’ economic landscape, being its 15th largest trading partner and 13th largest export market. Bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded US$3 billion in 2023, showcasing the robust economic relationship.

The visit by EAM Jaishankar to the Philippines is part of his Southeast Asian tour which includes Singapore and Malaysia, highlighting India’s commitment to strengthening ties with its regional partners. Notably, this marked his second visit to Manila since February 2022, underscoring the importance India places on its relations with the country.
