Chicago, U.S.A.
6 May 2015
President Benigno S. Aquino III received Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago in a courtesy call on the first day of his Working Visit to the United States of America.
During the call, the President accepted a City Council Resolution officially welcoming him to Chicago and marking the date as an important milestone in the relations between the Philippines and Chicago.
Part of the citation reads: “The City of Chicago is proud of its long history of friendship and cooperation with the Philippines. Filipinos are the fourth largest ethnic group in Chicago with more than 130,000 people living in the Chicago Metropolitan Area who claim Filipino or Filipino multiracial ancestry.”
“The month of May is Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage month and Chicago is proud to host President Aquino in this celebration of cultural, civic and economic contributions of the Filipino community to our great City,” the citation further states.
Mayor Emanuel was recently re-elected on his second term to the city.
