President Rodrigo Roa Duterte stressed the serious effect of the proliferation of the illegal drug industry to the next generation during his speech before thousands of mothers and local officials in the ‘Convergence of Nanay Volunteers as Community Drugwatch’ event held at Clarkfield, Angeles City, Pampanga.

“If you deprive us of our youth or the next generation, ‘yung mga anak ninyo, saan tayo kukuha ng mga Pilipino na tatakbo ng bayan na ito… Remember, four million is four million. It’s no joke. And they spread throughout the country. And we are already a narcopolitics,” he said.

President Duterte once again showed his thick list with the names of public officials and personnel who are involved in the illegal drug trade. He admitted that he was appalled by how illegal drugs thrived throughout the country without the citizens and leaders realizing it.

“When I was a mayor of Davao City, I knew that we have a very, very serious problem. Drugs. Alam ko. Pero hindi ko talaga alam kung gaano kalalim ang tama ng bayan,” he said before the members of the Nanay Community Volunteers present during the event.

According to Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda, these mothers, whose numbers increased to almost 9,000, are a big help in Pampanga in implementing community works and services, and in instigating the anti-illegal drug campaign of the administration in the province.

She told the President, “Ang mga Nanay Community Volunteers ay matibay na kaakbay at sandigan ng probinsiya sa pagpapatupad ng inyong programa na nagbunga ng matatag na kampanya laban sa pinagbabawal na gamot, at sama-sama nating sinusulong bilang isang bansa.”

Governor Pineda also said that the Nanay Community Volunteers are helping provincial leaders in its fight against illegal drugs by reporting those suspected pushers and users, and by enlightening the youth with the relevance of education and family.

“Pinapatunayan lamang ng Nanay Community Volunteers na ang kababaihan ay hindi lamang ina o asawa, kundi sila na rin ngayo’y mga lider na tagapanguna na magsilbing karagdagang lakas sa bayan, probinsiya at maging ng buong bansa,” she added.

These volunteers are taking part in helping the underprivileged citizens in Pampanga by referring them to barangay health centers, and district and provincial hospitals. They are also helping the health workers in delivering health services to the disadvantaged residents.
