“Kayo ang Siklab-Laya. Sundalong Isinilang na Kasangga at Lakas ng Ating Bayan para sa Kalayaan. Remember that you carry a name that speaks of fire and of freedom. To be born a comrade. To be made strong for freedom. That is powerful, it is poetic,” stated President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the commencement exercises of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) ‘Siklab-Laya’ Class of 2025 at Fort General Gregorio del Pilar, Baguio City.
Addressing the 266 graduating cadets, the Commander-in-Chief celebrated the unique milestones of this batch. He highlighted that they are the first to undergo training on Pag-asa Island and have represented the Philippines in international military competitions, showcasing the country’s organizational military skills, as well as participating in international academic conferences, among others.
He also emphasized that modern warfare extends beyond traditional land, sea and air battles, underscoring the importance of mental agility, technological proficiency and ethical leadership.
“Our country needs men and women who put their country and others above themselves; who sacrifice for the good of all; and who overcome odds because they believe in the bright future ahead,” he said.
Highlighting the increasing participation of women in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), President Marcos Jr. expressed hope for more female officers to serve and inspire future generations of Filipino women aspiring to contribute to national service.
In closing, the President urged the new officers to serve with honor, love for country and compassion regardless of where their duties take them, whether in the mountains, at sea or in their communities.
“Kayo ang mga bagong mukha ng serbisyo, ng kagitingan. Kayo ang Bagong Pilipino – na may disiplina, may husay, at may pagmamahal sa ating inang bayan,” he added.
As part of the traditional ceremony, President Marcos Jr. signed a pardon of punishment, symbolizing a fresh start and renewed commitment to service.
