Three declarations were adopted as the 26th ASEAN Summit came to a close at the Langkawi International Convention Center (LICC) in Langkawi, Malaysia.

Presided over by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as this year’s country host, the ASEAN adopted the ‘Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the People-Oriented and People-Centered ASEAN’, the ‘Langkawi Declaration on the Global Movement of Moderates’, and the ‘Declaration on Institutionalizing the Resilience of ASEAN and its Communities and Peoples to Disaster and Climate Change’.

Prime Minister Najib also expressed his optimism that the 26th ASEAN has yielded positive results especially in making the organization more inclusive for its peoples and to rid the impression of being ‘elitist’.

“This is a very significant milestone in history of our organization and we must ensure that every effort is extended in pursuit of that goal,” he said.

With the theme: “Our People, Our Community, Our Visions”, Malaysia concluded the 26th ASEAN Summit and invited the leaders to join the 27th ASEAN Summit still to be hosted by Malaysia in November this year.
