Masbate City
17 August 2013

A year after the ill-fated flight that took the life of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, his wife Rep. Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo of Camarines Sur returned to Masbate to lay a wreath at the crash site where the Piper PA-34 Seneca carrying the Secretary and three others crashed.

In behalf of their daughters Aika, Tricia and Jillian, Atty. Robredo shared that their family will be eternally grateful to those who selflessly helped recover his husband’s body, including that of pilot Capt. Jessup Bahinting and Nepalese co-pilot Kshitiz Chand.

At noon, in a short program following the morning event, Rep. Robredo gave recognition to June Abrazado, the lone survivor of that fateful incident and to the rescue operations team who bravely faced the depth of the waters near Masbate in search of the secretary and the two pilots.

A multi-awarded public servant, Sec. Jesse Robredo was a champion of good governance. After serving as Naga City mayor for six consecutive terms, he assumed office as the secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government in 2010.
