“This remarkable feat of collaboration and innovation embodies our steadfast commitment to empowering communities, enhancing connectivity and ushering in a brighter and more sustainable future for generations to come… The completion of this project is a milestone in our pursuit to enhance the resilience and reliability of our power infrastructure,” remarked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. when he led the energization of the Cebu-Negros-Panay Backbone Project Stage 3 (CNP3) in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

The CNP 230-kilovolt (kV) Backbone Project is set to improve the transmission of power from Cebu, Negros and Panay, or vice versa, including the export of excess power from one Island to another, if available. It also supports the entry of renewable energy sources from Negros, the growing demand in Cebu, and improves the reliability of the grid in Panay.

President Marcos Jr. underscored that the CNP will help resolve the power supply challenges that plagued the Negros and Panay sub-grids, which have caused serious economic setbacks in the Region. Noting the robust contribution of Region VI (Western Visayas) and Region VII (Central Visayas) in the country’s economy, the President further emphasized that the CNP will also address the surging energy demands and propel the socioeconomic advancement of both Regions to new heights.

“No region can attain a dynamic economy if it is hobbled by an inadequate power transmission system… By enhancing connectivity and stability in the transmission network through CNP, we are not only addressing immediate power challenges in Negros and Panay, but also laying the foundation for a more sustainable and robust energy future for the entire country,” the Chief Executive added.

The CNP is comprised of three (3) stages, namely CNP1, CNP2 and CNP3, as well as the Negros-Panay Interconnection Line 2. The CNP3 completion by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) means that the entire backbone project in the Visayas is now running at full capacity.

Recognizing the NGCP’s successful completion of the project, the President urged the corporation to continue fulfilling its duty and obligation of safeguarding the resiliency and efficiency of the country’s energy infrastructure. He likewise reiterated the government’s steadfast support for the NGCP in this shared endeavor.

Furthermore, he called on all the stakeholders, public and private alike, to continue working together to drive the nation’s energy agenda forward and forge a more sustainable future for the Filipino people.

“Let us ensure that the transformative impact of this infrastructure project reaches every corner of society, especially the underserved and the marginalized communities. Together, let us welcome and claim the Bagong Pilipinas that we deserve — a nation where our people’s ideas spark progress and where a better and brighter tomorrow awaits us all,” President Marcos Jr. ended in his message.
