President Benigno S. Aquino III met with Mr. Richard Tantoco, President and COO of the Energy Development Corporation, and discussed the agreement of EDC with the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Science Limited. EDC and GNS Science agreed to work together on strengthening its current relationship and establishing further mutually beneficial geothermal science and resource technology projects. EDC also engaged GNS Science to benchmark EDC’s practices and acquire best-in-class performance in all aspects of the geothermal business.

Earlier during the business form, the President mentioned that one of the areas of mutual interest between the Philippines and New Zealand is geothermal energy. And this solid foundation continues to work through measures like the Geothermal Energy Cooperation Arrangement (GECA) which allows the Philippines to share best practices and knowledge, and facilitate private sector activity.
