President Benigno S. Aquino III and members of his Cabinet met with Airbus Vice President (Philippines) Pierre Lanore and Executive Vice President (Asia Pacific) Pierre Jaffre during a business meeting at the Intercontinental Le Grand Hotel in Paris.

The President expressed his gratitude to the Airbus Group for assisting in the lifting of the ban imposed by the European Union in 2010 on local carriers like Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific to fly into Europe because of aviation safety standards in the Philippines.

The significant development is expected to further improve economic ties between the Philippines and Europe as this will allow airline carriers to open direct flights from both sides. It will also boost the country’s tourism industry, help airline companies expand their operation and improve trade and business relations.

Airbus is the world’s leading aircraft manufacturer. Founded in 1969, the Airbus Group was originally formed as European Aeronautic Defense and Space (EADS) Group with headquarters in Toulouse, France. In 2014, it was reorganized as Airbus Group combining the divisions for development and marketing of civil and military aircraft, communications systems, missiles, helicopters, rockets and other aerospace products and services.
