President Benigno S. Aquino III visited the City of San Fernando in Pampanga where 22 barangays and 16,618 families are affected by the floods brought by the monsoon rains. He distributed relief goods in Sto. Niño Elementary School where around 100 families are temporarily sheltered since Tuesday.
According to a report submitted by City Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, the breach on the spillway of Pampanga mega dike caused severe flooding within the city and nearby towns such as Minalin and Sto. Tomas. If not repaired and re-channeled, it will paralyze economic activity in the area and lahar will overflow even in McArthur Expressway. The President gave his assurance that DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson will help resolve the problem.
Pampanga was one of the worst hit by floods due to a week long torrential of rains. As of today, 18 towns and 1 city are affected and a total of 156,420 families are displaced.
