President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia a day before his attendance in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – Australia Special Summit in Melbourne, Australia.

During their discussion, the two leaders agreed to boost rice trade between the Philippines and Cambodia, highlighting the ongoing efforts to tackle double taxation and improve ease of doing business. They also touched on expanding flight connections for improved accessibility to premier tourism destinations and strengthening defense ties to address mutual security concerns.

The President last met the Cambodian Prime Minister when they participated in the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia on September last year.

According to the Embassy of the Philippines in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the earliest contacts between the peoples of the two countries may date as far back as the 6th century. Diplomatic relations was officially established on August 20, 1957.
