President Benigno S. Aquino III and French Republic President Francois Hollande reaffirmed the importance of continued dialogue on bilateral cooperation issues, as well as regional and international issues, when they met at the Palais de l’Elysée in Paris.
In a joint statement of the two leaders, they reaffirmed that the bilateral relations of Philippines and France are based on shared values of democracy, respect for the rule of law and commitment to the pursuit of peace, the promotion of human rights and the attainment of social justice.
Both leaders agreed on the need to strengthen and expand the relation between the Philippines and France through several agreements that will be signed in the areas of defense, tourism, education, culture exchanges, trade and investment.
They also discussed the efforts being made in fighting climate, continuing sustainable development programs and projects, reconstruction and rehabilitation of Yolanda-hit areas and in maintaining peace and stability in Southeast Asia.
The two leaders also agreed to look into expanding and strengthening cooperation in the fields of education, training and internships in partnership with academic institutions in the Philippines and France.
