President Rodrigo Roa Duterte reiterated several government platforms, particularly the campaign in eradicating the country’s illegal drug problem, during the Barangay Summit on Peace and Order held at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
According to President Duterte, he initially targeted to rid the country of its illegal drug woes in six (6) months but the task proved to be insurmountable with 1.6 million drug addicts.
He also shared how his administration has been keen to improve the country’s health care services by increasing the Philippine General Hospital’s (PGH) government subsidy to PhP 100 million a month, as well as giving PhP 50 million monthly subsidy to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) and an additional PhP 50 million monthly subsidy to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center.
Moreover, the President shared several anecdotes as Davao City mayor for 20 years before his election as the country’s 16th Chief Executive.
Spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) led by Secretary Eduardo Año, the event gathered barangay and local government officials in Metro Manila to discuss government measures to fight illegal drugs, criminality, and federalism.
