President Benigno S. Aquino III expressed his enthusiasm in witnessing the awarding ceremony of the TESDA ISO 9001-2008 Certification at the Heroes Hall in Malacañan Palace.

Reaching a milestone in terms of providing high quality products and services, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) boasts of being the second government agency under the executive branch to be awarded with ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certification after the Department of Health back in 2013.

“Malinaw po: Ang Tagumpay na ito ay hindi nagmula sa sistemang bara-bara, kundi sa kalkulado’t tiyak na mga hakbang; hindi sa tsamba, kundi sa sama-samang hangarin at pagsisikap ng bumubuo ng TESDA, kasama na ang kanilang mga mag-aaral, at mga napagtapos,” the President said.

The ISO certification was obtained from the German-affiliated company TÜV SÜD PSB Philippines, an independent quality management agency and TESDA’s third party certification body, which awarded the ISO certification to several TESDA offices around the country. These include: TESDA central office, 17 Regional Offices and 81 Provincial Offices, as well as the sole TESDA office in Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (TESDA-ARMM).

Conferment of the ISO 9001:2008 standard guarantees that TESDA has met the criteria on quality management principles including strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement. These ensure that TESDA trainees and scholars will get consistent, good quality products and services that will translate to better jobs and opportunities.

Today, there are over 7.1 million Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programs graduates from June 2010 to 2014 with 65.3% employment rate.

TESDA Secretary Joel Villanueva received the award from Femelyn Kati, General Manager of TÜV SÜD Philippines. Also present on stage was Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz.
