President Benigno S. Aquino III awarded the Seal of Good Housekeeping for Barangay Governance to 27 exemplary barangays in the second district of Quezon province at the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation Gymnasium, Lucena City.

The recipients in the district level are Brgy. Matipunso, San Antonio; Brgy. Market View, Lucena City; and Brgy. Buenavista West, Candelaria.

Other barangays that received the award in the municipality level are Brgys. 2, 9 and 7 in Lucena City; Brgy. Lutucan Malabag, Poblacion 1 and Sto. Cristo in Sariaya; Brgy. Masalukot 1, Malabanban Sur, and Pahinga Norte in Candelaria; Brgy. Caban, Anastacia and Palagaran in Tiaong; Brgy. Pury, San Jose and Sinturisan in San Antonio; and Brgy. Sta. Lucia, Kinabuhayan and Bulakin 1 in Dolores.

Barangays Quipot (Tiaong), Sampaloc 2 (Sariaya), Dagatan (Dolores), Pulo (San Antonio), and Dalahican (Lucena) received consolation prizes.

Awardees received a plaque of recognition and cash prize that is intended for funding their respective barangay projects.

The late Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo conceptualized the Seal of Good Housekeeping Award to recognize outstanding leadership in local government units. Its implementation is being continued by Secretary Robredo’s successor Sec. Manuel Roxas II.

Coinciding with the awarding ceremony is the oath taking of 41 town and city mayors in Quezon as new members of the Liberal Party (LP) – Quezon Province.

The President stated in his speech some major developments in Quezon and in the country that reflect beneficial improvements to Quezonians and the Filipino people. He reported that the infrastructure budget in the province would increase from P1.43 billion in 2012 to P2.4 billion in 2013. He also mentioned that according to the National Electrification Authority (NEA), 49 sitios all over the country will be provided with electricity this year. President Aquino proudly said that the Philippines have exported 16 million liters of coconut water in a period of two years. He also thanked the people of Quezon who staunchly support the endeavors of his administration.

President Aquino was accompanied by DILG Secretary Manuel Roxas II and Representatives Mark Enverga, Irvin Alcala and Lorenzo Tañada III.
